Plastic pipe fittings have become very popular these days for water supply and drain lines. The low cost, good durability and easy installation has made plastic pipes most popular.

Fittings meant for plastic pipes and for connecting plastic to metal pipes are available in various options like threaded, compression and solvent weldable types. The diameter and specification of plastic pipe fittings also vary depending on their application. For example, fittings with smaller diameters are used for pressure connections and they are slightly heavier and have deeper throats.

Threaded plastic fittings thread almost like metal fittings. When both hot and cold water are to be carried, it is advised to install special transition fittings in order to prevent leaks caused by the different expansion rates of plastic and metals. In fact, plastic pipe fittings are available for almost every kind of application.


ABS System:


(Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is another variety of plastic widely used for making plastic pipe fittings. ABS can be easily recognized by its blue color and rigidity. ABS fittings are usually used for drainage lines and are more economical than PVC pipe fittings. The sections are joined together using solvent cement.

Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) is simultaneously light, flexible, tough, and exceptionally corrosion-resistant. With its ability to withstand higher temperatures than PVC applications, CPVC is used in media temperatures up to 210°F (intermittently) and can typically be found in hot water systems, hot acid distribution, and waste systems.

PE Polyethylene has been the accepted material for the production of fittings and pressure pipes used in the distribution of drinking water for more than 50 years. Polyethylene is characterized by toughness, near-zero moisture absorption, excellent chemical resistance, excellent electrical insulating properties, low coefficient of friction and ease of processing.

However, due to its molecular structure, Polyethylene is suitable for cold water plumbing only -- exhibiting extremely good strength at room temperatures whilst retaining its flexibility and has longevity of life when used for cold water plumbing applications.PB Polybutene-1 was developed over 30 years ago specifically for use as a hot and cold water plumbing pipe material. PB-1 resins are flexible, linear polyolefins produced from 1-butene as homopolymers and as copolymers with ethylene. Polybutene-1 is a proven solution for the conveyance of clean healthy drinking water.
The most important commercial application for Polybutene-1 (PB-1) is therefore in plumbing pipe for residential and commercial use. With superior temperature and thermal capabilities compared to other materials, there is no need for lagging – it endures and continues to perform both in low and high temperature applications.
